A Level students at Malbank Sixth Form were delighted to receive results today that Headteacher John Harrison described as “incredibly impressive”. Mr Harrison explained - “We are incredibly proud of our Y13 students this year. Not only have they achieved such impressive results, but we have rarely had the pleasure of working with such a lovely group of young people as our outgoing leavers.”   

Results were consistently strong across the board, with outstanding improvement seen for the sixth form, with a rise in A/A* equivalent grades and a significant leap in the percentage of students achieving A*-C compared to previous years. Students consistently outperformed their targets, leading to all students applying to university to be offered a place and clearing becoming something that only happened if students wished to make a change to courses they had initially selected. Mr Harrison noted “It is amazing to see that all our young people have been placed by UCAS. Naturally, the results' day can be quite a tense affair sometimes, but today has been the smoothest one I can remember”. 

As always, the results achieved see students leaving the sixth form to pursue courses across the country. Isabella Fletcher leaves Malbank to start at Liverpool University where she will be studying Sociology and Josh O’Donnell is also on his way to Leeds University to study Music. In addition, Mia Andrews and Naomi Carrigan, two of the highest performing students in the year, excelling in their vocational studies, leave to pursue Adult Nursing degrees at Keele. 

Reflecting on the results, Head of Sixth Form Craig Batty said, “we pride ourselves on getting students to maximise their potential, whatever that may be. For me, one of the best parts of today is seeing students massively outperform targets and expectations, hugely improving their life chances in the process. We are an inclusive Sixth form and these results show the success of that approach, unlocking doors for young people and giving them the chance to achieve their ambitions.” 

Looking back on their time at the school and sixth form college, the headteacher added, “The results they have achieved prove that when a student puts their mind to something and commits to hard work, collectively we can achieve anything. It is the embodiment of that positive mindset and courage to put themselves and their success first that has led our young people to achieve such fantastic things this summer.”
