  • GCSE Results Day 2024

    Published 26/08/24

There was much celebration and plenty of smiles at Malbank School in Nantwich as GCSE students collected their exam results. Headteacher John Harrison praised the staff and students for their resilience and commitment to success and reflected on how proud he was of a year group whose very start to life at secondary school suffered due to Covid lockdowns. “I am delighted to see so many students achieve what they deserved this summer and from a school perspective it is reassuring to see such strong results in the areas we hoped for – many of our subject results are fantastic and a real cause for celebration for both staff and students. For a year 11 whose early years at secondary school were so disjointed, they have done brilliantly to re-establish those foundations and build towards the achievements they have seen today.”

As always, there were many students whose grades were incredibly high, with Will Gardner and Hope Marshall just two of a number of students achieving multiple grade 9s amongst a host of other fantastic results. Head of Key Stage 4 Louise Ratcliffe was eager, however, to discuss the success of students at all levels. “Obviously, it is great to see students receive a string of grade 8 and 9s as that clearly takes an enormous amount of work and commitment to achieve. As teachers, however, we get just as much pleasure seeing young people meet and exceed their potential whatever the grade. Some of the most rewarding results are from those students for whom achieving two grade 4s in Maths and English, sometimes against the odds, opens a door for them for the rest of their life.”

Malbank Sixth Form are currently enroling students to start on their A Level or BTEC courses in September and students are encouraged to get in touch to discuss the wide range of options available to them. Head of Sixth Form Craig Batty is particularly looking forward to welcoming a new group of students into the family. “Year 11 have been fantastic to work with throughout the recruitment process this year; I can't wait to get started with them as our new year 12 in September alongside the outstanding students joining us from other institutions.  Given the quality of the A Level results last week and the fact that 100% of our students were accepted through UCAS without clearing and 91% got their first choice, everyone should have high expectations for what we can achieve together.”

If any students wish to discuss choices or applying to Malbank Sixth Form, the easiest way to do so is to email Mr Batty at [email protected] or phone the school on 01270 611009. Malbank students are also able to confirm their options directly via Microsoft Teams by contacting Mr Batty if they have not already filled in the final choice forms available to them upon collecting results.

    A Level Results Day 2024

    Published 15/08/24

A Level students at Malbank Sixth Form were delighted to receive results today that Headteacher John Harrison described as “incredibly impressive”. Mr Harrison explained - “We are incredibly proud of our Y13 students this year. Not only have they achieved such impressive results, but we have rarely had the pleasure of working with such a lovely group of young people as our outgoing leavers.”

Results were consistently strong across the board, with outstanding improvement seen for the sixth form, with a rise in A/A* equivalent grades and a significant leap in the percentage of students achieving A*-C compared to previous years. Students consistently outperformed their targets, leading to all students applying to university to be offered a place and clearing becoming something that only happened if students wished to make a change to courses they had initially selected. Mr Harrison noted “It is amazing to see that all our young people have been placed by UCAS. Naturally, the results' day can be quite a tense affair sometimes, but today has been the smoothest one I can remember”.

As always, the results achieved see students leaving the sixth form to pursue courses across the country. Isabella Fletcher leaves Malbank to start at Liverpool University where she will be studying Sociology and Josh O’Donnell is also on his way to Leeds University to study Music. In addition, Mia Andrews and Naomi Carrigan, two of the highest performing students in the year, excelling in their vocational studies, leave to pursue Adult Nursing degrees at Keele.

Reflecting on the results, Head of Sixth Form Craig Batty said, “we pride ourselves on getting students to maximise their potential, whatever that may be. For me, one of the best parts of today is seeing students massively outperform targets and expectations, hugely improving their life chances in the process. We are an inclusive Sixth form and these results show the success of that approach, unlocking doors for young people and giving them the chance to achieve their ambitions.”

Looking back on their time at the school and sixth form college, the headteacher added, “The results they have achieved prove that when a student puts their mind to something and commits to hard work, collectively we can achieve anything. It is the embodiment of that positive mindset and courage to put themselves and their success first that has led our young people to achieve such fantastic things this summer.”
